A Film or a Distant Era?
How someone remembers the Ford Anglia may tell you something about their age. For many, the Ford Anglia brings back memories of driving from times long past. Maybe, one of your parents owned one when you were younger or you’re older now and you were the owner. Driving was different then. However, for other generations, the car belongs to Ron Weasley’s dad Arthur, and it evokes memories of the 2002 film ‘Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.’ This was a Ford Anglia 105E with a difference, not only was it the Deluxe version but Arthur Weasley enchanted it and made it possible to not only turn invisible but also be capable of flight.
A number of cars were used in the making of the film and unfortunately some were destroyed with estimates to be around fourteen. The car that appeared in the film was a light blue 1960 Ford Anglia 105E Deluxe with the registration ‘7990 TD.’ The Deluxe version differed to the Standard version in terms of styling more so than engine size or power. The more expensive model came with exterior chrome, full-width grille, side strips, rear lights and interior upgrades including a lockable glovebox. Sun visors, carpets and a better trim were also included.
In the film, The Ford Anglia 105E Deluxe appeared three times.
Rescue From the Dursleys
Ron Weasley used the Ford Anglia to rescue Harry from the Dursleys.
No Way Through Platform 9¾
The car was used again, when they were unable to go through ‘Platform 9¾’ to get to Hogwarts.
The Forbidden Forest
Having come to life, the car comes to rescue Ron and Harry from the Forbidden forest. The car’s final scene was when it returned into the Forbidden Forest. However, despite disappearing into the Forbidden Forest, this Anglia’s adventures were not over. In October 2005, the car was stolen from outside some film studios in Cornwall, UK. Months later, it was found near to the 14th-Century Carn Brae Castle in Cornwall. Maybe it made its own escape?
