Ford Popular 100E
If you look at a Ford Prefect 100E, a Ford Anglia 100E or even a Ford Popular 100E, you would be forgiven for thinking that they are all the same cars. This is because Ford UK used the 100E designation for the body type and not the engine.
Ford Consul 315
A number of Google searches would suggest that there was a Ford Anglia 109E. This is however a misnomer. The 109E body type designation was for the Ford Consul Classic 109E (1961–1962). It is also known by its export market name, Ford Consul 315.
The confusion arose from the fact that the Consul’s engine was a larger capacity (1,340cc) variant of the same Kent engine used in the Ford Anglia 105E. Much of the car’s engineering originated in the Anglia 105E, including the gearbox.
The Consul also borrowed heavily from the Ford Anglia 105E, in terms of body styling, including the reverse rake rear window. The rear of the car, very much resembles the Anglia 105E but it never ever bore its name.
