The Ford Anglia A54A Australia
Built in Australia between 1946–1948, the Ford Anglia A54A was basically a facelift of Ford UK’s Ford Anglia E04A. The Australian version utilised the chassis and front panels of its British counterpart. The Australian public were able to purchase three different stylings, a four-door saloon, a 2-door tourer, and a 2-door coupe. In addition, a 2-door panel van was available.
Rationale
Ford Australia was formed in 1925. During the the Second World War, Ford focussed its attention on the war effort and car production was halted. During this time, the Australian governement placed high tarriffs on the import of cars. After the war Ford Australia restarted car production assebling imported models, initially beginning with the UK and Canada. Ford Australia had a history of importing components and parts to assemble their cars in Australia and it wasn’t until 1960 that a fully 100% Ford car was built in Australia, this being the Ford Falcon
Design
As previously stated, the Ford Anglia A54A was a facelift of the Anglia E04A which was introduced as a replacement for the Ford 7Y with an updated look.
